KENTON VALLEY RED CROSS. The Kenton Valley Red Cross held their March appeal afternoon at the home of Mrs Ellis Sandercock. Visitors came from Lobethal, Gumeracha and Springton, also Mrs Leo Sandercock, of Queensland, a former member, was present.
Mrs Lillecrapp, of Brighton, was guest speaker, and also judged the apron competition, which was won by Mesdames K. & L. Sandercock, and also Mrs E. Sandercock. All aprons were sent to Headquarters for the September Fair Stall. A trading table was convened by Mrs K. & L. Sandercock and the approximate takings were £8/10/- for the afternoon. [27/3/1957 5d.]


TENNIS AND SOCIAL AFTERNOON AT FORRESTON. The picturesque garden of Mr H.A. Hanna was the setting chosen for the Tennis and Social Afternoon, which was arranged by the Young Women's Fellowship of the Gumeracha Methodist Church. Approx. 50 ladies were present. Mrs N.C. Gunthorpe, introduced by Mrs R. Lee (the pst president of the Fellowship) officially opened the afternoon. David Hanna presented Mrs Gunthorpe with a dainty posy of mixed flowers.
Many ladies spent a very enjoyable time playing tennis and the winner was Mrs L. Sandercock. The prize was a lovely sponge cake. A "Yes and No" competition caused much amusement among the non-tennis players. The children found enjoyment in playing with toy cars, trucks, and tricycles.
Mesdames Grantley Cornish and Max Cooper did very brisk business at the trading table. A doll, daintily dressed by Mrs Allan Jamieson was won by Mrs B. Quinn in a competition.
Mesdames Stephenson, J. Hill, R. Norsworthy and B. Hanna were hostesses.
Proceeds of the afternoon, will be used in purchasing necessary requirements for the Manse at Gumeracha. [30/10/1957 10c.]


LADIES' NAVIGATION TRIAL AT FORRESTON. The Ladies' Navigation Trial was held in Forreston. Cars competed over a course of approximately 36 miles. Congratulations to the winners, Mrs D. Stephenson and Miss J. Clark, 138 points lost, second Mesdames C. Verrall and C. Malpas, 153 points, and third Mrs L. Sandercock and Miss J. Bleeze, 158 points. A special prize was given to the "McBride Sisters," Messrs J. Norsworthy, G. Cornish, and W. Symonds, all looking most charming in the latest styles.
To conclude an enjoyable afternoon a picnic was held a few miles from Forreston. [15/10/1958 11c.]


THIRTY-TWO RINKS AT GUMERACHA LADIES' BOWLS TOURNAMENT. On Wednesday, February 18, the president and secretary of the Gumeracha Ladies Bowling Club, Mesdames Thompson and Sandercock, welcomed visitors to their first country tournament. Approximately 32 rinks competed. Teams represented included Uraidla, Woodside, Murray Bridge, Mount Barker, Mount Pleasant, Freeling, Lenswood, Gawler, Gumeracha and Adelaide.
The winning rink was skippered by Mrs Menz of Murray Bridge. Runners-up were Mrs Green's rink of Trinity Gardens. During the afternoon a fruit cake competition was won by Mrs L.G. Sandercock. Throughout the day the local ladies ran a trading table, which assisted sum raised to approximately £80. [2/3/1960 11d.]

OPENING MATCHES IN TVFA. The season opened under ideal playing conditions. Early opening rains saw the ovals nicely grassed and ground conditions firm.
Attendances were quite good for the opening series.
All clubs were not up to full strength having been weakened by army call-ups and seasonal work on the land.
The promotion of B grade and junior players to the opposition of seasoned players in A grade showed most were in need of a match, but some good games were played. Margins in scores do not truly indicate the play.
GUMERACHA v. LOBETHAL. When Gumeracha were at home to Lobethal the match was even until half time when the home team were trailing only 14 points behind their opponents. Scoring had been low, but accurate kicking through the big sticks showed that Lobethal had notched up 7 goals 6 behinds to 5 goals 4 behinds by Gumeracha. The third quarter saw Lobethal make a definite breakthrough, outplay the Magpies' defences and by particularly fine kicking for goal conclude the term with 14 goals 9 behinds to 6 goals 7 behinds.
The final term witnessed good football with Gumeracha battling on. Lobethals, however were the better team on the day and the final score when the bell went was Lobethal 17 goals 12 behinds, Gumeracha 8 goals 8 behinds.

GUMERACHA TENNIS TOURNAMENT. There were good entries and some good tennis witnessed in the Gumeracha tournament. The finals scores were as follows:-
Gents' Champion Singles went to T. Zilm who defeated G. Stanbury 5-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Gents' Handicap Singles: R. Klose defeated L. Lintern 6-4,
Gents' Doubles Handicap: I. Sandercock and L. Lintern defeated B. Osborn and K. Levitt 9-4.
Ladies' Handicap Singles: G. Bleeze defeated J. Amber 6-3.
Ladies' Handicap Doubles: R. Fuller and J. Verrall defeated B. Stephens and M. Sinkinson 7-5.
Mixed Handicap Doubles: L. Sandercock and G. Bleeze defeated G. Stanbury and B. Stephens 6-4.
Gents' B Grade Handicap Doubles: R. Sparrow and F. Verrall defeated D. and H. Schlein 6-3.
Ladies' B Grade Handicap Doubles: Enid Sandercock and Athalie Cornish defeated M. Tuck and B. Clarke 6-4.

GUMERACHA FOOTBALL CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Gumeracha Football Club was held recently with a record attendance of about 40 people. Officers were elected as follows:ñ Mr Allen Bleeze (secretary), Mr Frank Dohnt (president), Patron is Dr R.R. Bowey; delegates are Messrs R.G. Almond, C. Stephens and L. Sandercock; auditor, R.G. Brougham. Committee: Messrs R.G. Almond, F.H. Dohnt, M. Roden, M. Hanna, J. OëDea snr, A. Bleeze and Captain and Vice-Captain of A grade and Captain of B grade; time-keeper, R. Coleman; ball steward, K. Bleeze; goal umpire, A grade, N.F. Cooper, B grade, B. Sinkinson. Social committee: B. Moore, G. Cornish and L. Randell.
