James Crowhurst and his wife Caroline, left England on 11th May, 1848, in the sailing ship "Constance", and arrived at Port Adelaide on 27th August of the same year. Moving to the Gumeracha district shortly afterwards, they settled on property now occupied by Mr. L. H. Cornish. Later they removed to Mt. Pleasant, but again came to Gumeracha, where they settled on the property now occupied by their grandson, Tom.
There were nine children, three sons, Charlie, George and Sam, and six daughters, Mary (Mrs. Neale, Jamestown) ; Sarah (Mrs. John Lang, Peterborough) ; Lydia (Mrs. John Levitt, Kersbrook) ; Fanny (Mrs. F. C. Coad, Adelaide) ; Charlotte (Mrs. Harry Wade, Meadows) ; and Ruth (Mrs. Woolard, Gumeracha). Only Mesdames Coad and Wade are now alive. Sam continued on the old homestead, where another family of nine children were reared, six boys and three girls. One son, Vincent, was killed in the Great War.

Immigrated (‎1848 Gumeracha, Adelaide Hills Council, South Australia, Australia) on board “Constance"

Source for person: Colin,

I recently came across your connection to Caroline Verall while researching my family. She was born in 1821 at Hailsham in Sussex. Her parents were Carles Verrall(1783- ?) & Lydia Crowhurst(1786-?) they married in 1805. She had two sisters Lydia (1828-?) and Sarah(1809-?) and three brothers who all emigrated to Australia, George (1807- 1879 Ipswich, Queensland),William (1819-? Hermitage Sth Aust.) & Charles (1823-? Kenton Valley Sth Aust.).
