 Valerie Anne SandercockDaughter of Rex Sandercock and Annie Baumgurtel. Born 27 Aug 1925, age 98 years KAY-VEE WELFARE BIRTHDAY. The Kay-Vee Welfare Ladies held their 8th birthday in the Kenton Valley Baptist Church which was tastefully decorated for the occasion by Mrs K.M. Cornish. The President, Mrs Rex Sandercock presided, and opened the afternoon's function with the National Anthem. Mrs Sandercock introduced and welcomed the guest speaker Miss Kelly of Glenelg who spoke of her social work in connection with the Good Neighbour Council. Greetings were read from similar organisations, the Gumeracha CWA, the Baptist and Methodist Churches, Birdwood and Chain of Ponds. A sextette comprising of Mesdames W. Nickels, K.M. Cornish, G.R. Randell, M. Billingsley, E. Waters and Miss D. Billingsley sang "My Task" also a duet was rendered by Mrs F. Phillips and Mrs G.R. Randell with Mrs F. Redden at the organ. The church was well filled with friends from the surrounding districts. The birthday cake, made by Mrs J. Witford (former member) and iced by Mrs A.L. Nickels (Secretary) was cut by the guest speaker. A trading table in charge of Mesdames H.W. Nickels and V. Sandercock was soon cleared. Vice-President, Mrs K.M. Cornish, moved a vote of thanks to all for their cooperation in making the occasion successful. A delicious afternoon tea was served. [10/11/1954 13d.]
